Each year the Junior Board raises critical funds to support Read Ahead’s partner elementary schools that do not receive funding from a corporate partner. Strikes, Spares, and Splits is a bowling benefit that has sold out for the past four years!
Being a part of the Junior Board is a way to enhance your professional and social networks through professional development nights, Junior Board outings, and leadership opportunities on subcommittees.
More than 50% of our Junior Board members serve as mentors in the Read Ahead program!
Throughout the course of the year (September – June), the Junior Board meets to plan fundraising initiatives to achieve their yearly goal in support of Read Ahead. During the 2018 – 2019 year, the Junior Board raised more than $121,000 in support of
PS 125 and PS 36 in Harlem and PS 130 in Chinatown.
The Junior Board is led by two Co-Chairs who represent the group at the quarterly Board of Directors meetings and work with the chairs of the three subcommittees: Marketing & Communications, Governance & Recruitment, and Events & Sponsorships. The Junior Board is supported by a Read Ahead staff member who serves as a liaison to keep the organization's mission aligned with the goals of the group.
