Read Ahead builds children’s confidence and motivation in reading and beyond. The program is open to students entering grades 1-5 at our partner schools. We are committed to connecting students to the mentoring and reading support they need to be successful in school and beyond. Read Ahead matches each student with 1 or 2 mentors for the school year to meet through video using Zoom. Mentoring sessions are 45 minutes and will be held once a week starting in October. Sessions include reading, discussion, playing games, and completing guided reading lessons using Lexia Core5, a fun and interactive online reading program!
Your child will join their virtual mentoring session each week, typically during their lunch hour at school. Sessions start and end as a group with peer students and mentors. In between, students and mentors have one-on-one mentoring sessions in “breakout rooms” monitored by Read Ahead staff. All sessions take place through a secure Zoom account under the supervision of Read Ahead staff.
Mentors come from Read Ahead’s 30+ partners spanning various industries. They are committed volunteers who often tell us that their favorite part of their week is meeting with their Read Ahead mentee! All mentors are screened, background checked, trained, and supervised by Read Ahead staff.
Space is limited, so we encourage you to click here to submit your permission form as early as possible! Submitting the permission form is the first step and all you need to do to start.
