Effective March 11: Read Ahead’s in-school program is suspended

The Read Ahead team has been continuing to monitor the news and guidance around the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) very closely. Based on the latest information available, we have decided to suspend all Read Ahead in-school programs and external activity, including our weekly mentoring program in schools, beginning Wednesday March 11.

We arrived at this decision after considerable thought and consideration, and conversations with many of our partners and stakeholders. At this time, we are not aware of any confirmed cases of coronavirus in any of our schools, but we are mindful of the guidance from the city around increased social distancing, especially for vulnerable populations. Thus, we are putting this temporary suspension into place out of an abundance of caution and concern for our mentors, mentees, and entire Read Ahead community.

We are working with our schools to communicate this pause to all of our mentees, and our hope is that we will be able to resume programming later this spring. We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and mentors will be contacted directly with more updates in the coming weeks.

While we are disappointed to have to pause our program temporarily, our commitment to our students and schools is unwavering. We strongly encourage all members of the Read Ahead community to continue to follow the World Health Organization’s advice for the public on protective measures.

Any questions regarding this policy can be directed to Read Ahead’s Executive Director, Kristen Baldwin.
