Thank you for your interest in joining the Junior Board! Our 2025-26 application is now closed! We’re on an annual application cycle, so there won’t be any openings until summer 2026. Individuals interested in joining Read Ahead’s Junior Board can reach out to juniorboard@readahead.org to be added to our interest list for 2026-2027.

About the Junior Board
The Junior Board is a group of young professionals united by the belief that reading and mentoring have a meaningful and lasting impact on New York City youth. By combining the power of fundraising, advocacy, and community building, the Junior Board is integral to Read Ahead’s success.
The Junior Board is NYC-based, with events typically taking place in Midtown Manhattan. Across our retreat and 3 full Junior Board meetings (all take place during weekday evenings), we require at least 50% in-person attendance.
We look for enthusiastic individuals and emerging leaders who can commit to a full year of championing Read Ahead’s mission-driven work, by mentoring and fundraising. We seek to build a diverse Junior Board representative of the communities we serve. If this sounds interesting, we strongly encourage you to apply!
All Junior Board members commit to:
- A year of participation in Junior Board meetings and events (most take place October – June)
- Fundraising $1,000 or more each year, either through personal contributions or fundraising through their personal network
- Participating in all Junior Board meetings annually, with at least 50% meeting attendance in person
- Participating in our annual retreat
- This year’s retreat will take place in person on Tuesday, October 7th. Midtown location TBA.
