About Read Ahead
Read Ahead provides elementary school students with reading-based mentoring programs and the resources that strengthen their confidence and prepare them for future success. Read Ahead carefully matches students at under-resourced schools with caring adult mentors who build consistent, one-on-one relationships with them. By reading together, students and mentors develop trust and connection while making reading fun, engaging, and driven by students’ own interests and curiosity.
Fewer than half of public school students in New York City are reading at grade level. For elementary school students — who are at a critical age where children learn to read, and form the foundation of their relationship with school and learning — the need for additional, individualized support has never been more urgent.
Team Read Ahead for the 2027 United Airlines NYC Half
Team Read Ahead members commit to raising critical funds (minimum of $2,500 per runner) to support our program. Our staff provides all of the tools, templates, and support you need to meet your fundraising goal.
Runners who commit to raising at least $2,500 receive:
- A standard Read Ahead swag package
- A personalized fundraising page, with resources and expert support to help you meet your goal
- Access to the Team Read Ahead Strava group and email lists
Runners who commit to raising at least $3,500 receive:
- A *premium* Read Ahead running care package
- A running app subscription providing a personalized and adaptable training plan to help you reach your goals at the 2027 United Airlines NYC Half
- Priority selection for a future NYRR race with Team Read Ahead
