Manager, Program & Impact
Kyesha Lewis is a nonprofit professional with deep experience in education, youth development, and volunteer management. Born and raised in Harlem, Kyesha is passionate about supporting Black and Brown communities — specifically the decriminalization of Black and Brown boys — and young women experiencing home or academic challenges, especially those at-risk of dropping out of school, teen mothers, and unhoused or displaced youth.
Kyesha joined Read Ahead in 2017 as a program coordinator, managing reading-based mentoring programs at public elementary schools in Brooklyn and Manhattan. She has recently stepped into the role of Manager, Program & Impact, overseeing a portfolio of school partnerships. In addition to program oversight, Kyesha is also instrumental in Read Ahead’s efforts to strengthen family engagement and is spearheading Read Ahead’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) working group.
Prior to Read Ahead, Kyesha has drawn from her personal experience as a former teen parent to lead a teen parenting group, and leveraged her expertise and interest in social-emotional learning to create supportive learning environments for students while working as a freelance teacher. Kyesha also has a strong background in communications, and experience in digital marketing and as a Creative Director on video sets for various NYC artists. In her free time she enjoys writing, painting, self-help books and listening to 90s R&B.
Kyesha holds a B.A. in Media Communications and Africana Studies from Lehman College. She has certifications in Mental Health First Aid Training from THRIVE NYC, has completed numerous trainings at the Center for the Promotion of Social & Emotional Learning, and is a trained Birth and Postpartum Doula.
