bapplewhite@readahead.org

Brittany Applewhite is a young nonprofit professional with experience in volunteerism, education, and operations. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Brittany is passionate about creating and celebrating spaces that allow members of the African Diaspora to learn about their cultural history, show up authentically, and engulf themselves in joy and acceptance.

Prior to joining the Read Ahead team, Brittany worked with several youth-serving organizations in supportive administrative roles. She has a strong background in program coordination, virtual event support, and community building. She was drawn to the Read Ahead community through its mission and values – most predominantly, the value of joy. When she is not working on all things Read Ahead, she is brushing up on her skateboarding skills, enjoying being a cat mom, or finding a relaxing neo-soul playlist.

Brittany holds a B.A in Forensic Psychology with a minor in Africana Studies from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Social Welfare at the University at Albany – SUNY.
