Read Ahead builds children’s confidence and motivation in reading and beyond. The program is open to students entering grades 1-5 at our partner schools. We are committed to connecting students to the mentoring and reading support they need now more than ever! Weekly Mentoring Program

Read Ahead matches each student with 1 or 2 mentors for the school year to meet through video using Zoom. Mentoring sessions are 45 minutes and will be held once a week starting in October. Sessions include reading, discussion, playing games, and completing guided reading lessons using BookNook, a fun and interactive online reading program!

Sessions

Your child will join their virtual mentoring session each week on a remote learning day of your choice. Sessions start and end as a group with peer students and mentors. In between, students and mentors have one-on-one mentoring sessions in “breakout rooms” monitored by Read Ahead staff. All sessions take place through a secure Zoom account under the supervision of Read Ahead staff.

Mentors

Mentors come from Read Ahead’s 30+ partners spanning various industries. They are committed volunteers who often tell us that their favorite part of their week is meeting with their Read Ahead mentee! All mentors are screened, background checked, trained, and supervised by Read Ahead staff.

BookNook

Mentors and mentees have access to this engaging, fun, and interactive online reading program to complete together. BookNook is a hit with kids and provides highly effective reading support! We are excited to offer this great resource as students return to school this year. Mentees and mentors will have other reading and game options as well.
